WebAsyst Shopping Cart service launched!

Vladimir V. Tuporshin — October 31, 2007

We launched our new web-service WebAsyst Shopping Cart!
Now it is open for everyone.
We invite you whether to test our new service or to start using it.

New shopping cart service!

WebAsyst Shopping Cart is a web-service for creating online stores that we created on the basis of Shop-Script PREMIUM shopping cart software. Today WebAsyst Shopping Cart offers more features than Shop-Script. Everyone can subscribe for WebAsyst for free and get dedicated online storefront instantly. Detailed description of the new service is on its website.

When new version of Shop-Script will be released?

We have been working on Shop-Script to make WebAsyst Shopping Cart service for over an year now. During this time we significantly improved Shop-Script and made major changes in Shop-Script kernel. We plan to introduce new version of Shop-Script on February 2008. New version’s features will be identical to WebAsyst Shopping Cart’s.

We will offer free upgrades to new version of Shop-Script to all existing Shop-Script clients (both PRO and PREMIUM versions).

One of the major improvements in Shop-Script that we made during the last year is update technology that will allow us to release updates quickly and easily. Much time was spend on this :) After you switch to the new version, you will be able to install updates smoothly - you will not have to worry about changes in storefront design you made (unless you make critical changes in your store functions and look&feel) - new features will merely appear in your store backend, and you will decide whether to use new functions or not.

Now we will be making a downloadable software package from today’s WebAsyst Shopping Cart web service. We will do our best to make it installable on servers with various configurations, and to make upgrade process for you as smooth as possible.

Thank you for your patience and for awaiting for new updates. If you are interested in the upcoming Shop-Script, we encourage you to subscribe for the new WebAsyst Shopping Cart and see how will new version look like. We will be publishing news regarding new version’s development process in this blog.

Add/Edit Contacts function enhanced using AJAX

webmaster — October 29, 2007

We have improved the Add Contact and Edit Contact forms using AJAX. These forms now work much faster without reloading contact list page.

For new forms we have added a Fields… button which you can use to customize visible fields in contact information records; e.g. phone numbers, addresses, notes etc. You can specify filled fields (i.e. that contain some information) to be always visible.

When adding/editing contact information, there are enhanced validation and error control functions. Fields of the Memo type (e.g. Notes) have dynamic height: it means they “grow” if you add more lines to your text, as illustrated in the sample below.

We have also redesigned Delete Contact function utilizing AJAX, and it now works without reloading the entire contact list.

Publishing a slideshow on your webpage or blog

webmaster —

WebAsyst Slideshow widget allows you to embed a window into a page on your website or blog, and to display in this window a slideshow of selected photos or an entire album from your WebAsyst Photos account.

How it works:

WebAsyst Slideshow widget

All images are actually located in your WebAsyst Photos account. You can upload and organize them using familiar WebAsyst Photos features. If you want to publish some photos or an entire album on an external webpage available for other people, simply select these photos or album, click “Create a Widget” button, and then copy and paste a piece of HTML code on your external webpage; e.g. on a page on your corporate website or in your blog.

You can change multiple settings of your widget to best suit the website where you wish to embed it; e.g. Size (Width and Height), Background Color, enable/disable Auto-Play on Start option and navigation buttons etc. You can even enable Add/Delete buttons in your widget which allow adding/deleting images directly from your widget without logging in your WebAsyst Photos account.

Expanding content area to the entire screen

webmaster — October 22, 2007

We have redesigned the Hide/Show Folders feature. There is a small “X” icon on the Folders pane caption. By clicking this icon you can hide the folder pane and expand main content area to the entire width of your browser. This function now utilizes AJAX and works quickly, without reloading the page. To see the Folder pane again, click the small icon that appears next to the folder name, as shown in the sample below:

 hide folders

show folders

Some operations automatically reopen the Folders pane if it was previously hidden; e.g. Add Folder, Rename Folder, Add Link/Widget, etc., and usually move you out of the current folder. The auto-opening Folders pane simplifies navigation, and helps you to avoid confusion by clearly showing your new position in the Folders tree.

Moving folder (drag and drop):

Deleting folder does not reload the whole page. The Customizing Folder Access Rights function has been separated from the former Modify Folder page, and is available now directly from Folder menu. Also, the Propagate Access Rights function has been encapsulated into the Customize Access Rights page.

Online Folder widget added to WebAsyst Files

webmaster — October 2, 2007

Online Folder widget has been just released. Online Folder is a tool that can be placed into your blog or webpage to list folder content and allow everyone to add files to this folder. Clicking on a file name opens it in a new browser window. Widget users can also delete files from Online Folder (this option can be disabled during widget customization step):

  1. Give a name to your widget, e.g. “My Documents”.
  2. Get HTML code and simply copy and paste this code into your blog or a webpage.

Customizing Online Folder widget
You can modify widget’s properties: color, size, text, limit on number of files or maximum size of file to be uploaded, online folder name, and a file delete option. If you choose to delete a widget, it will no longer be available on the Internet for others to use.

We are currently working on designing a collection of neat and useful widgets for all WebAsyst services, and will include them in the future WebAsyst releases. Stay tuned!
