WebAsyst Shop-Script first update

Vladimir V. Tuporshin — May 7, 2008

We have released first update of WebAsyst Shop-Script beta.
In this update we fixed bugs and defects found in the first release, and improved functioning of the software on servers of various configurations (various versions and settings of PHP, Apache, IIS).

Update can be easily installed using WebAsyst Installer — new update technology that we use in our new WebAsyst Shop-Script beta (WebAsyst Installer is a dedicated administrative part of WebAsyst used for configuring your installation and installing software updates).
To install this update, login to your WebAsyst Installer and follow “Update is available” link.
Entire update is performed using only your web browser.
During software update procedure you can see the list of changes in this update.

Automated software update will not work if your server does not allow changing maximum allowed scripts execution time which is 30 seconds by default — this time will not be enough to download the latest update (nearly 8 MB) and install it.

If you experience difficulties with this update or have any questions, please email us at shoppingcart@webasyst.net — we would be glad to help you. We also welcome your feedback on the new software and its updating system.

Thank you for your interest in WebAsyst Shop-Script and for your help in testing!

  3. It works, I used semi-colon delimited from my original shop-script as export. However, the first time I imported it, everything came in as catogories, I used the erase product feature and the second time it worked right.

  6. I’m loving it… The Windows WebAsyst Installer is very cool. Makes uploading the store to a server easy for both the novice and experienced users.

  10. Any idea when the beta version will be replaced by a real first version?

    Comment by Lieven — June 6, 2008 @ 6:01 am

  11. Thank you, Vladimir. Great work! I have just installed Shop-Script on my web server. I think that a Support file will be appreciated. The install process was not so clear to me, but finally I managed it. I hope to do so when editing the template, because it is neither clear the way how we can edit the index page. Maybe vewing the source code and trying to find the name of the php index page… Well I tell more when I start editing it. Best wishes.

  13. I find very hard to develop a decent site design (with SS was more easy). Just to move around boxes as shown video is not enough for me.

  14. I agree with copy, I think there must be other option for re-design like SS that we can only focus on 1 index file (index.tpl.html). To me this is the beauty of SS as its so easy to re-design compare to other software.

  15. It’s really hard to redesign the script compare to previous version which is very easy.
the new release make things really difficult for changing the design completely.
i like the previous version but it is not stable too.

  16. Least there could be a template not full screen. Fixed width with content in center. Now I am able just to move blocks.

  17. Hi there,

I am ready to start my shop. But I am waiting for the new Premium version. I do not want to set up the shop and then get upgrades for the new version. When will the new WebAsyst shop will be released (not beta)? Thanks

  18. Silence. Is project dead?

  19. If i’d knew that it takes so long, i should not had purchased the script.
even the stable version available, it’s not simple like the previous version which is the best.
they modified the script completely and not user friendly and hard to edit the templates using frontage. i hate the new version which is completely rubbish.

  20. We are working on WebAsyst Shop-Script new website now, and plan to fully present new version on this website (it can take up to a month, I think).

We understand your concerns about file and code structure change, and definitely have plans to improve it and make it more intuitive and easier to understand.

  21. The new shopping cart has some impressive tools. One major concern is that the script seems to ignore the fact that many people including myself use godaddy for webhosting. All the modules that require cURL simply will not work without a lot of know how and tweeking.

I am looking forward to having this innovative script fully operational, but godaddy and the new release just do not get along. However the previous version of Shop-Script Premium worked flawlessly on godaddy. I would love for a member of the core development team to contact me as I like to explain further and determine whether or not the new release will ever work on godaddy.

    Comment by Jeff — July 8, 2008 @ 1:54 pm

  22. On GoDaddy servers cURL in HTTPS works only through Proxy — http://help.godaddy.com/article/289

To make payments and shipping modules work on your website, you should add few instructions to the code as GoDaddy suggests (you can contact our support so we can help you to resolve the issue).

Soon we plan to add new settings to the shopping cart for proxy support.

  23. i’d like to give you a suggestion:
keep the previous stable version and modify it and add the new features to it which you added to the beta version so that it will be so nice as simple as before., if you keep working with the current beta version, you lost your customers and i am sure not many people like the beta script which is very complicated and not easy to edit the code as we are not a a programmer.
    so what you think?

    Comment by ajimu — July 9, 2008 @ 2:30 am

  24. Thanks for the response Vladimir. I am aware of the article you pointed out and have added the code to deal with the proxy servicer situation. I have been working with the support staff for over a week now regarding the reel-time ship module. Neither myself or the support staff has been able to get the UPS reel-time shipping module to work with godaddy. It is getting more interesting by the day. You should check out the correspondence between myself and the support staff. Unfortunately it is becoming more apparent that the current architecture and or coding of the new script simply cannot work with godaddy, this is not from a lack of effort on my part or your support staff. We have tried everything we can think of. It simply does not work. Both myself and the support staff have dozens of hours, trying to make what should be very simple, work. Like I said though shop script premium works flawlessly with the module in question. Not sure what the problem is with the current issue, but I am excited that someday soon it will work and open up the tools I have been waiting a long time for in a shopping cart solution. Thanks for the hard work.

  25. Will certainly read your support history. I’m sure it will help us to improve software and make setting up shipping modules on GoDaddy like a charm.

  26. Shop has a bug.

Your demo is with products in title with just one word.

If you make description with title with more then few words it does not fit and hides below bottom border.

Support gave me reply we do not give support for design mod.

Is this my problem if beta shop has million and 2 bugs?

    Your support is useless…

  27. In the next update it will be possible to fully edit product and category titles.

  28. when will the stable version released? i advice you to change your overall script like current stable version which is the easy way to modify and edit the layout without any problem. the current beta is useless and hard to edit the templates unless we are a programmer. my final advice is stop the current beta development and redesign your script for making us easy.
i found one good shopping cart called Livecart which is almost same like your current stable version. I recommend you to check their script and learn from them.
Thanks and hope this will help your future.

  29. Hello Vladimir V. Tuporshin
what happened? why did you delete my last comment?
anything wrong? did i give you wrong advice?

  30. Will the update run faster than current? I have customers complaining that the cart crashes or at least bogs down their system so bad that they go browse other sites while waiting for my products to load.

I like what you’ve done with the product but it definitely needs some speed improvement. Any one want to offer suggestions? See http://www.suncoastramairhoods.com. Email comments through the site’s feedback link.

    Thanks,
    Ric.

  32. Ric, thanks for commenting. WebAsyst Shop-Script became more complex because of support for multiple languages and backend user permissions.
We are concerned about the speed of the cart, and it is one of our main priorities to make it working faster. With each next update your cart will be running faster and faster.

    Comment by Vladimir V. Tuporshin — August 1, 2008 @ 12:28 am

  33. Hi Ric, I checked your website http://www.suncoastramairhoods.com/eshop and its running well with the speed. I tried to open a product and its loaded less than 5 seconds. I think the problem is from your customer’s connection.

    Comment by Ben — August 1, 2008 @ 12:41 am

  34. Ric > I think you have too many products on one category page.

    I’ve checked
    http://www.suncoastramairhoods.com/eshop/index.php?categoryID=205&category_slug=browse-by-vehicle

And it did not load fully. I suggest you putting just 20 - 30 products on one page if such option is available.
